I recently ran a NUTS game for novices.
NUTS 3rd edition. 15mm scale Ally players against Axis Gamester.
Background: Almost all the action is with Monty on the eastern side of Sicily. He has just taken over the Maine east-west highway in the American domain. In Patton’s mind, this gives Patton free reign to expand into the western and northern portions of the island.
WW 2, 1943 Sicily D-Day +5.
Your Captain has been ordered by Patton to recce the immediate two dozen miles for enemy positions before the general commences his bust-out. The First Platoon First Squad Sergeant is to take his squad in jeeps and scout the hill town of San Pasqualli for axis defenses. The squad is being escorted by a platoon of 91st Recon Stuarts. The Lieutenant of the company and three of his command are coming with you, replacing 4 of your men.
The front is a bit nebulous. The patrol is leaving the American lines, traveling 10 miles in the heavy fogbound morning to scout out a high hill (which is just above the blanketing fog). The game begins just before the Americans enter the table at the town. The fog that had obscured the patrol from line-of-sight and muffled the Detroit engines lies just outside and below the table.
