Star Navy question about collision

Postby RSV » Tue May 16, 2017 8:26 am

I'm new here and I don't know if this has been asked and I'm sorry if it has and I didn't see it....

Can ships ram each other?

I was given the task to read over the rules and was given the book and so far all I see is collision with asteroids.

I wouldn't recommend it and there are no existing rules for it, but it can be done.
1 - Tell the players before the game how to do it.
2 - Get within 1" as you would with an Asteroid.
3 - Have the Target ship take the asteroid test and the striking ship roll on the Asteroid Table.
4 - Count the Class of the striking ship as the impact instead of one class higher as on the Asteroid Table.

Welcome aboard the THW Capital Ship, RSV! Oh, wow, I just made an unintentional pun as we're talking about Star Navy. I'm keeping it because I'm too lazy to delete what's already been written. Too bad for everyone reading this!

Anyway, you could do what Ed said because (a) it sounds like fun and (b) he knows what he's talking about, or you could say the collision ruptures the star drive (or plasma drive) and kills everything within a very large radius - perhaps also opening a portal to hell - on a roll of 1-5. On a roll of 6, everyone just goes Obviously Dead.

I joke, of course. Do what Ed said. I'm just here for comic relief.

Seeing how ships hitting ships is a big thing in most major sci fi movies and series I'm a little surprised it wasn't made official. But I'll see what I can do with what has been posted here. Thanks for the info.

Ships hitting ships occur only in Sci-Fi movies since the original Star Wars in 1977. They rarely occur in Sci-Fi literature.

They do so very rarely. Governments tend to frown upon captains running into things with multi-million dollar ships.

And when someone does they lose their jobs. But now there are rules for it. Just remember that it can also damage the ramming ship as well.
