Introducing THW Anywhere

Postby watti3460 » Fri Sep 29, 2017 9:27 pm

Because I often have little time to play, I have created a portable THW set with a small footprint in order to play almost anywhere.

This consists of the QRSs from several games printed to about 4x3 and a "Field Notes" type booklet printed with graph paper made of dots. With a set of brown markers maps can be drawn in the booklet for a fountain pen kind of look. Mechanical pencil and fancy art eraser is used to track characters and makes the maps reusable later.

The maps in the booklet represent the 12'' x 12'' battle board, while a small index card serves as the 9 x 9 map for tracking PEFs. Pieces of Post-It flags are used as markers here, as well as full sized for mini chapter sheets. They contain the name, rep, weapon types as well as codes for representation in the battleboard.

Finally, I typical have used a set of 5 mm dice in a pouch, but at the time of this photo I am trying out the Gamemaster's Apprentice by Larcenous Designs llc. These are set the of 60 two sided cards with random tables and dice roll values.

All in all I am pleased with this set up. I've used it for Future Tales and am running an ATZ campaign at the moment. I've used this at work, in a waiting room and in vehicles.

Enjoy.

Wow! Thanks for the interest.

I have also used little colored dots as tokens for characters. Avery makes a set of removable 1\4 inch ones. They are great looking but become a pain when lifting and removing repeatedly. Also whenever they overlap its difficult if you have chunky fingers like me.

I wonder what could happen if there were a small index card sized set of wet erase cards. With a hex grid is probably too much to ask for. The only down side to the maps in the booklet is unless you are very careful when you draw tokens in pencil repeated erasing ruins the paper. Plus having a dry erase type surface you could potentially print little stickers/clings for objects like vehicles and other things.

I,m glad my set has gotten the wheels turning in some of you!

Love to see an "offical" games kit.

So I felt a little inspired after everyone's comments and I came up with a laminated .2 inch per hex battle board. It's just s bit wider than the field guide booklet is. The wet erase markers look good. I have not given much thought to scale yet but I figure about ten foot per hex.

The real test will be smudging during travel. Can I make a map and pause during a game for any reason and resume latter without the map being ruined. Also the hexes are bigger than the squares in the booklet so it's time rollout the little Avery stickers for another go.

Interesting idea. I like the mini-map for PEFs.

Great idea. I've been considering picking one of these up, might be something you could use.
